Both Bueno and Bloomfield.Works are two emerging streetwear brands that continue to gain steady movement over the last few years. They received positive reception since landing their new collections in our shop as both offer a refreshing vantage point of Latino and Jamaica heritage, respectfully. This editorial was shot in Frog Hollow, a historic district in Hartford, CT serving primarily Latin-American residents.
A stand out piece from Bloomfield.Works this season is their “Love Gospel Carpenter Pants”. Made from an 8 oz. painter’s drill, they feature spiritual graphics and a “Love Gospel” embroidered logo above the right knee. Bueno on the other end has crafted strong tee paying homage to the Latin Soul music genre. Bueno also does a great job with their story telling that adds context to each item. Here’s what they shared about the Latin Soul Tee –
Latin soul was a short-lived musical genre that developed in the 1960s in New York City. It consisted of a blend of Cuban mambo with elements of Latin jazz and soul music. Because the majority of Latino immigrants living in New York City in the 1950s were of Puerto Rican or Cuban descent, "Latin music" had been stereotyped as music simply originating from the Spanish Caribbean. Latin soul placed a heavy emphasis on its Afro-Cuban rhythms and featured songs sung mostly in English. The style grew out of an attempt on the part of Latin musicians in New York City to expand the reach of their music beyond the local Latin community and into the wider mainstream American society.
