BLUE EARTH COMPOST CELEBRATES 10 YEARS OF SUSTAINABLE GOOD
THE COMPOSTING COMPANY RINGS IN A DECADE OF ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Blue Earth Compost is commemorating its tenth anniversary, celebrating a decade of sustainability. The food scraping and hauling company has paved the way for a more climate-conscious Connecticut, serving the community by helping to eliminate food waste from landfills.
Rather than allowing last night’s leftovers to rot, Blue Earth Compost’s mission is to transform scraps into valuable compost, which in turn creates healthy and nutrient-dense soil for more food to grow. While composting can seem daunting, Blue Earth Compost has made the crucial practice more accessible, trailblazing as one of the first to operate a commercial food scrap collection dump truck, offering its services to homes, businesses and events throughout the region. Over the years, the organization has collected over 40 million pounds of would-be-waste, which is the environmental equivalent of reducing 83.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide, planting 62,800 seedlings or avoiding 430,000 gallons of gas, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Waste Assessment Reduction Model (WARM).
It should come as no surprise that Blue Earth Compost is in the top 5% of B-Corp certified companies for its size, earning the title of “Best for the World.” Bringing the best to Connecticut, Blue Earth Compost also holds the 2016 reSET Social Impact Challenge Awardee, as well as the 2017 NERC Environmental Sustainability Leadership Award and 2018 City of Hartford Mayor’s Proclamation.
