“AS WE PROCEED..”
CAFETERIA RADIO COLLABORATED WITH THE LOCAL, A NEW COCKTAIL BAR AT PARKVILLE MARKET, TO CURATE DJ SETS FOR AN APRIL RESIDENCY. WE BROUGHT IN A TOTAL OF 5 DJ’S AND CREATED A VIBE TO REMEMBER.
When asked about how this collaboration came about and the state of nightlife in Hartford, Cafeteria member Joshua Jenkins shared:
“I’ve often felt our city has been inconsistent in terms of nightlife. The pandemic certainly had its effect on us culturally, you know, in the sense that social engagement hasn’t been the norm or sought after for some time. But I also feel we don’t really have a lot of our old spots anymore. Places where we could hear tunes we actually listen to and not what’s spoon-fed. I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge all the grassroots and underground initiatives [folks like Bizzie and Chux Studios] taking place in the city but so often it requires finding a new venue each time.”
“So a few weeks ago, some homies and I hosted a party for Palm Wine. I linked my homegirl about it and she said “I’m sorry there’s *such and such* event”. This resonated with me like, did we really forget about the nights when we would bounce from spot to spot? When the folks at Parkville Market first reached out, the idea of tapping into a new space and atmosphere was a no brainer. And since the month of April worked out well for both parties, were excited to announce that Cafeteria Radio has locked in a residency all summer long. We will kick things off May 28th, will be occupying The Local every 3rd Saturday through September and have much more in store. See you there.”
