Lower Forms, a thrifting staple based out of the historic district of Westville, New Haven, hosted the first of its new, weekly artist pop-ups. The thrift shop has no shortage of preloved items and an established connection to the community in which it resides.

Alyx Doran, the owner of Rework Shop, a brand most known for their re-assembly of vintage watches into runway-ready pieces, was the first in their series. There was no shortage of items to shop, from hand-made jewelry to fully reconstructed denim, the pop-up even had a rack of well-taken care of vintage clothing for resale.

Though the brand is most known for its watch pieces, Alyx is no stranger to cut and sew design, and boasts a wide range of talents - but I’ll let her tell it in her own words-

“I’m Alyx I own The Reworkshop, a brand that brings old things new life. I’m probably most known for the watches I upcycle into necklaces but I do other jewelry too, and have been upcycling clothing for years. I’m so grateful for everyone who’s shown support and love for where my craft is taking me.”

While shopping pop-up exclusive additions to the brand, like her hand-crafted shell necklaces, I got a little bit of insight from her as to how this all came about;

“I was shopping at Lower Forms, this amazing thrift shop in Westville, a few months back and had the pleasure of meeting the owner. I’m not necessarily shy about putting myself out there, so I mentioned I reworked clothes and that we could keep in contact. I spoke with Adam and Matt, who mentioned to me that they wanted to put together some smaller pop-ups. After they saw my setup at their market collab with @forgottenflea they fortunately reached out to have me for their first Saerturday popup. It coincidentally was the same day as the Westville Art Walk so it ended up being a lovely day with some other vendors and lots of people walking around shopping.”

Lower Forms set the bar pretty high with this as their first in the series, if it’s any indication of how well their summer of collaborations will go, New Haven has much to look forward to.

Keep an eye out for 1of1 drops from Rework Shop here & pop out to Lower Forms on Saturdays to support not only the shop - but the local artists they have working with them.
