Technicity Exhibition & Capsule Collection
TECHNICITY EXHIBITION AND CAPSULE COLLECTION LAUNCHES AT SEMILLA STUDIO.
The concept of Technicity first started when we began brainstorming what we wanted to offer to the interior setting at Semilla Cafe + Studio. Early conversations lead to the idea of building a DIY DJ booth, which eventually snowballed into a research project into Sound System culture, originating in Jamaica.
We started assessing our material needs, and it was obvious we’d acquire a pair of the undisputed industry standard, SL-1200 turntable by Technics. Japanese developers continue to have a stronghold on the audio industry for decades. This offered a steady pipeline for audio hobbyist to unlock sophisticated audio configurations in order to reproduce the best listening experience obtainable.
Technicity (n.) by definition means “the extent to which a people, culture, etc., possesses technical skills or technology.” As music remains the common denominator, we felt there is a conversation between the Sound System and the Audiophile and loved the idea of strengthening their connectivity through art and design.
Over the course of a few weeks, we unveiled a 3-part installation series that included our custom-built DJ Booth and stereo setup, a record listening and browsing lounge and concluded with a capsule collection gift shop in collaboration with emerging brands Bloomfield.Works, Deadby5am, Demuerte, Radar Vision and Righteous Path 2002.
The exhibition was curated by multidisciplinary artist M Ξ R C U R Y with art direction by Joshua J. Jenkins. The custom furniture builds were constructed in collaboration with project entity Rubberworks™, M Ξ R C U R Y (for The Hypist) and friend, Phil Johnson.
